I think that house has great potential. Personally the first thing I would do is paint all that wood trim white. I know many people think that’s criminal and in Minnesota wood trim is very popular, but I would do it and suffer the consequences.
You people are delightful. Here is one thing in each room I would do as soon as I could: A beautiful wood front door and wonderful wood carriage doors. In the kitchen, stainless steel tile backsplash and new lighting, I have no idea what to do with the “breakfast nook” We don’t even eat breakfast. 🙂 I am at a blank on the fireplace wall with the built-ins. I would reface anything I could as the wood is not my favorite. Stone would be nice on this wall, some character would be great. As for the basement fireplace room, It is cozy, needs cozy furniture, blankets a flat screen, turn the fire on and rent a movie…….
I was wondering if one of the bookcases in the living room could be removed and have some artwork placed instead. It may help to create an assrymetrical look and to hang cool art/woven wall hanging/clock above the fireplace. I like the idea of stone added. The room seems to need more texture to create more warmth. A large area rug would be great. I agree with different lighting in the kitchen, looks a little rigid. Loads of possibilities.
